Preventative Health Screening
One of the foundations of family medicine is prevention. Perioidic Preventative Health Visits and screening are based on a patient's age, gender and medical history. Preventative Health Visits are booked when there are aspects of preventative care that are required to occur in-person (i.e. pap smear). These visits will only address the intended aspect of preventative screening you are due/overdue for. If you have additional health concerns you would like to discuss please book a separate appointment.
What preventative screening should I know about?
As of March 3rd, 2025: Healthy individuals with a cervix should begin cervical cancer screening at age 25 with HPV testing every 5 years
If you are due or overdue for cervical cancer screening, please contact our office for an appointment.
Please be aware Cancer Care Ontario will mail patients a letter reminding them they are due for their screening as well as their results and next steps.
Healthy individuals should consider beginning breast cancer screening at age 40. Click here for a one page summary of the recent breast cancer screening changes *
If you are due or overdue for breast cancer screening you are able to book your book your own mammogram. Please visit the Ontario Breast Screening Program for more details.
Please be aware OBSP will mail patients a letter reminding them they are due for their screening as well as if their results are normal.
Healthy individuals should begin colon cancer screening at age 50*

Currently, neither PSA testing or a DRE are recommended for routine prostate cancer screening in asymptomatic individuals with a prostate
Annual “routine” blood tests are not indicated and provide little value in asymptomatic patients
If you have specific risk factors (current/past medical conditions and/or family history) your doctor may choose to screen you with blood work.
*Please note, depending on your current medical history and family history screening may begin earlier or more frequently.
